Pixel 8 screen problems? Google has you covered with long fixes

Google has heard Pixel 8 owner complaints about those annoying vertical lines and flickering screens. Google has quietly announced an extension to its repair program for affected devices, so if these pesky display issues plague your Pixel 8, you could be in for a free fix, up to three years after purchase.

The news comes from Google’s Pixel Help Community blog (via The Verge), where the company confirmed extended coverage for the Pixel 8 by showing a vertical line or screen flicker. However, there is a catch. Google or an authorized repair partner will need to verify your phone’s eligibility based on IMEI, so it’s possible that not all devices are eligible.

This isn’t the first time Google has faced user complaints about Pixel phone bugs. Even going back to the Nexus program, Google has had its share of weirdos, and these latest flagships unfortunately continue that trend. Just when we thought the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro were out of the question, users started reporting ripple-like glitches on their brand new displays. And now we’re dealing with pink vertical lines and flashing screens.

Despite these setbacks, Google has committed to a generous seven-year software update cycle for all Pixel 8 models. But on the hardware side, the warranty still only covers you for a single year, so this extended repair program is a change welcome to Pixel 8 owners facing those pesky screen issues.

Surprisingly, the Pixel 8 Pro is not included in this extended repair program, although some Reddit users have reported similar vertical line issues on the Pro model as well. Whether Google will extend the same courtesy to Pro owners remains to be seen, but if you’re having trouble, I’d definitely recommend trying to file a warranty claim.
