Car mounts for MagSafe are my go-to case for wireless charging and Apple’s implementation. Thinking back to “plugging” my iPhone into my car is like being back in 2010. The ability to quickly plug your iPhone into a charger in your car for a quick top-up is a case in point. great use for MagSafe. Today, I’m reviewing the new PITAKA MagEZ MagSafe car mounter.
MagSafe Monday: Every Monday, Bradley Chambers looks at the latest and greatest in the MagSafe and wireless charging industry to help you get the most out of your Apple devices that support wireless charging.
Why MagSafe makes sense in the car
As I said in the introduction, MagSafe in the car it makes sense. More than just your desk or bedside, MagSafe in the car is an instant upgrade over charging cables. Especially for shorter trips, I would find myself not charging at the outlet. My child’s schools are not far from our house, so I often forget. With a MagSafe dock, it’s so easy to pop it in there, and boom, it’s done. Especially for longer trips, MagSafe is even better. A vent dock puts my iPhone at eye level to track Apple Maps. I don’t have CarPlay in my car, so this is how I can follow directions without relying entirely on audio cues.
One final side note is that using a vent-mounted MagSafe vent always keeps my iPhone cool in the summer. We’re getting into that season where my car was bubbling in the afternoons.
What I love about the MagEZ MagSafe car mount
There’s a lot to like about Pitaka’s product. It checks all the boxes you want in a MagSafe car charger. The 15W speed can only be achieved when using a 20W charging cable, so if you have it in place with an iPhone that supports it, you’ll be in great shape for car charging.
Another interesting aspect of this product is that it includes several NFC shortcuts, so you can tap them to launch an automation in Apple’s Shortcuts app. One idea here could be that you could open a shortcut via NFC to trigger a HomeKit scene that works when you leave the house, etc. There are three different NFC options, but only one can be active at a time.
Magnetically, it’s really strong. I haven’t had any problems with the iPhone dropping. My route has some unforgiving speed bumps that tend to spill coffee everywhere, but this magnet holds up well.
Rely on the MagEZ MagSafe car mount
Overall, the MagEZ MagSafe Car Mount is a fantastic product. Installation in your air duct will only take a few minutes and it will charge via USB-C. If your car doesn’t have USB-C, you’ll either need an adapter or use the old cigarette lighter socket (I’m really dating myself here, aren’t I?).
